THE CORRECT SPELLING OF ELISABETH'S NICKNAME
Elisabeth's nickname tends to be spelt like this: Sissi or Sissy, however, the correct spelling is Sisi - with this I would like to express and make the readers understand that this website is not about the “Sissy or Sissi image” that is generally known.
I am often asked: “Is not her nickname spellt Sissi? Since everywhere it can be seen like this."
nfortunately, it is true that in many places in our country and other parts of the world her nickname is spelt like that. However, it is incorrect. In addition, in her “homeland” Austria her nick is also spelt "Sisi". Finally, the empress spellt her nickname “Sisi”. And it is out of question that she must have known how to spell her own name...

Unfortunately, it is true that in many places in our country and other parts of the world her nickname is spelt like that. However, it is incorrect. There is another theory for her nickname: some experts suggest that Elisabeth’s nickname was actually Lisi, and her signature was misinterpreted. It might be spelt “Sisiˇ” or “Lisi”, but definitely not “Sissi”... Which is the correct spelling? I let my Readers decide it:
Finally, let us refer to Katalin F.Dózsa's book on Sisi (Sisi-Legendák, Kossuth Kiadó, page 8), in which she notes that ’Sisi’is a misspelt nickname, because in German this nick is correctly spelt: Sissi, which is the title of Ernst Marischka’s films. However, Elisabeth’s nick was spelt with one ’s’, Sisi by her immediate family. Katalin F.Dózsa, in her book on Sisi (Sisi-Legendák, Kossuth Kiadó, page 8) notes that ’Sisi’is a misspelt nickname, because in German this nick is correctly spelt: Sissi, which is the title of Ernst Marischka’s films. However, Elisabeth’s nick was spelt with one ’s’, Sisi by her family.
