SISI MUSEUM GOES TO HOLLAND
Sisi at Paleis Het Loo
FAIRY TALE & REALITY
The exhibition ‘Sisi, fairy tale & reality’ highlights the contrast between the fairy tale figure created by the famous films and the reality of depression, intrigues, obsessions and death. Sisi’s youth, her life as empress at the Viennese court, her crowning as Queen of Hungary, the obsession with her appearance and the myths around her person are all presented with the aid of film fragments, photos, paintings and personal possessions. Special attention is paid to Sisi’s visits to the Netherlands.

Empress Elizabeth
It is the most comprehensive exhibition on Empress Elisabeth outside Austria
“The exhibition is an outstanding example for good international cooperation between two major European palace museums. We are very grateful to the management and staff of Schloss Schönbrunn for their kind help and their willingness to lend so many precious objects to our museum,” says Michel van Maarseveen, Director of Het Loo.
Palace Het Loo
“The Paleis Het Loo is a magnificent venue for the presentation of the many facets of the Austrian Empress’s story. Occupying roughly 1,000 square metres of exhibition space in an imperial setting, these very personal objects cast a light not only on Sisi’s romanticised fairy-tale image but also on the tragic side of her life.” The exhibition curator is convinced that “this all-embracing presentation of her life will here encounter a new and very interested public”. Princess Margriet, the member of the Dutch Royal House, opened the exhibition
The exhibition in Palace Het Loo can be visitid until 27 September 2015.
